Double opt-in
What is a Double Opt-in?
When signing up for something, most people check the box labeled “Opt-in” to make sure they are not signed up automatically. However, there is another layer of opt-in that many marketers probably don’t even know about.
If you have ever subscribed to a newsletter or other service online, you may have noticed that before you can complete the signup process, you are asked for your email address one more time (double opt-in). This is an extra safeguard to ensure that your email address isn’t being used by someone who shouldn’t have it.
With double opt-in, users must confirm their subscription with a secondary response such as a special code sent via email or a link with a verification token.
